Occurrence of aflatoxin B1 in pistachio nuts during various preparing processes: tracing from Iran
Authors
Abstract:
Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a secondary metabolite produced by some Aspergillus species, which haveharmful impacts on human health such as carcinogenicity, teratogenicity, acute and chronic toxicity. In this study, the occurrence of AFB1 in pistachio nuts during various preparing processes wasinvestigated in two pistachio farms from Qazvin province, Iran, from September to November 2012.High Performance detected level of AFB1 and Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) containedfluorescence detector using especial immunoaffinity columns. The results showed that AFB1 waspresent in the samples (100%) in during pre-harvesting, harvesting and post-harvesting stages. Thehighest mean value of AFB1 (27.58±2.12 μg/kg) was found in pistachio samples after harvestingprocess. Forty-six of 84 pistachio nuts (54.76%) in various process periods exceeded the maximumtolerable limit (2μg/kg) that set for AFB1 by European Union regulations. In addition, the resultsindicated that AFB1 levels in the samples had increased over storage time (P

full textOccurrence of aflatoxin B1 in natural products
The media claims for the consumption of natural resource-based food have gradually increased in both developing and developed countries. The interest in the safety of these products is partially due to the possible presence of toxigenic fungi acting as mycotoxin producers, such as aflatoxins produced during the secondary metabolism of Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus and A. nomius. Aflatoxins...
full textIdentification of New Aflatoxin B1-Degrading Bacteria from Iran
Background: Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a mutagenic and carcinogenic compound mainly produced by the Aspergillus parasiticus, A. flavus, A. nomius, A. tamari, and A. pseudotamarii. AFB1 biodegradation is the most important strategy for reducing AFB1 in plant tissues. Bacteria can deactivate and biodegrade AFB1 for effective detoxification of contaminated products. The present study investigated the ...
full textImmobilized Saccharomyces Cerevisiae as a potential aflatoxin decontaminating agent in pistachio nuts
In this study, we investigated the binding ability of Saccharomayces cerevisiae to aflatoxin in pistachio nuts. The obtained results indicate that S. cerevisiae has an aflatoxin surface binding ability of 40% and 70% (with initial aflatoxin concentrations of 10 and 20 ppb) in the exponential phase. Acid treatments increase this ability to approximately 60% and 73% for the two concentrations of ...
full textOccurrence and Exposure Assessment of Aflatoxin B1 and Ochratoxin A in Pearl Millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) from Tunisia
Background: Ochratoxin A (OTA) and Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) are toxic secondary metabolites produced by certain mold species. In this primarily survey, we examined the OTA and AFB1 contamination of pearl millet grains distributed in Tunisia. Methods: Twenty-five pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) samples from different regions of Tunisia were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography co...
full textThe occurrence and risk assessment of aflatoxin M1 in Cheeses samples from Hamadan, Iran
Aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) is a category of poisonous compounds found in milk and dairy products. The target of our research is to determine incidence and risk assessment AFM1 through the consumption of cheese in Hamadan province of Iran. Seventy cheese samples including cream cheese (n = 30) and Iranian white cheese (n = 40) were collected from different regions of Hamadan province, Iran and tested f...
